• I'm not going to bother you with spoilers or take the time to give a synopsis of the story-- that's what blogs are for. What I will say is that if you're a GE fan this is the one you've been waiting for since "Emperator" was made available on Audible. Not that the previous installment in the series was bad, definitely not, just that it was so good I could hardly wait for this one... and now I can hardly wait for the next!
  
  All I can say is the next one, whether it's the "Order of the Centurion" spinoff or the next volume in the GE series, it damn sure better be RC Bray I'm listening to when the audiobook releases. You hearing me Ainispoch and Cole? You'll stick with Bray unless you want to ruin my life. You don't want to ruin my life do you? Of course not, you love your fans and you'd do anything to make us happy.
• Halo meets Starwars in the best series of the last 5 years.

• I've been ripping through this series ever since a co-worker told me about it. I had to wait a couple months for Part 4 to release but it was WELL WORTH the wait!!! This series has been entertaining and engaging since the very first words... but Part 4 kicked that up a level.

• I've been programming about 17 years and consider myself above average programmer. Yet, this book made me feel like I'm actually horrible coder. I've always gotten my tasks done but I didn't pay attention on refactoring to clean up the code. I'm already behind and got a demo coming up in few days. As I'm reading my guilty verdicts on all his 'bad code' examples, it inspire me to care about 'coding' yet again. It can be fun and it's not all about getting the job done. What's sad about the reality is that 'bad code' will continually increase over time because people don't realize what 'bad code' can do in the long run.
  
  Every programmer regardless of experience should read this book. Thanks!

  Much of the information in this books is eye opening, particularly the chapters on functions, classes, and code smells. However, a serious problem is that this book is very, very Java-centric, and it is clearly a product of its 2009 copyright date. Many of the chapters have been made moot (PEP8 and Prettier making the formatting chapter largely obsolete, for example), and a few aren't totally applicable to any other language.
  
  Note about buying a new, physical version from don't. The book will be damaged in shipping as it just comes in a padded envelope and will be dog-eared like a used book before you receive it. See my picture.
• I've been reading this for the past few weeks and just by applying the principles and concepts I've learned so far, I've become a better and more mature developer. The lead dev on my team recently noticed and commented on the positive changes in my code as of late. He was also impressed when I used what I learned to refactor a bit of our code base. Even though it's Java-based and I am a Go developer with a background that is primarily JS, I've been able to use the ideas in this book to clean up my own code, both personally and professionally.
• This is a critical thinkers book. It gives the reader a basis to use within their own programming style and language of choice.
  
  The code examples are written in Java and are there to show how to refactor code based on the principles and reasoning within the book.
  This is not a book that I take as a specific do this or else, more of a guide that explains why you should consider writing code in the way described.
  
  Essentially the lesson is to create code that is small, has a specific purpose and does that one thing.
  When functions or methods begin to stray into doing multiple things spin those code pieces off on their own and repeat.
  
  What I get from this book is a mindset or way of thinking about programming. To create code that is cohesive, is small, does not have unnecessary parts. When these principles are broken find a way to refactor or eliminate the additional pieces. It is not just about taking away or keeping code small but adopting a way of thinking about the design of the program and how each piece interacts with the other parts.
  
  The suggested line lengths of functions mentioned and other very specific examples is more where your critical thinking comes into play. I do not program in Java so many of the language specific scenarios do not apply to me. in some languages you just can't have or do some of the things suggested. Though as a general rule of thumb I find the examples helpful and when I mean general rule of thumb I do not mean a specific line count or size but a simplistic do as little as possible to achieve the goal. Simplify. Simplify. Simplify.
  
  I purchased and received the 16th printing of this book, published February 2016.
  There are no weird formatting or printing issues with the book as others have mentioned.
  
  If you have the ability to reason and think critically, being able to adapt examples and suggestions to your own style and language then I highly recommend this book. The contents are NOT common sense and do not come naturally to the uninitiated. The book does take you by the hand in a certain way leading you from the process of just make the program work to thinking about the logic design and function of your programs.
  
  When you are in situations where redesign is not possible the principles learned from this book will help you to refactor when possible and write new code that is better, smaller, tighter. Making you a better more valuable programmer.
• The content is good, but the soft cover version of the book is of a poor print quality, it looks like it was printed from photocopies.
  I heard that originally, the print quality was ok, well, it's not anymore.
  It's still readable, but I would never buy it if I new about the print quality.
  Should've read other reviews.
• Bought the book due to a push at work to read this, the book was bought through Services, Inc. and like others have said I received a copy with huge margins on each page, a blurry cover, and no spine or back. I didn't have any of the problems of the binding falling apart yet, the text is readable its just the code samples are a bit hard to read.
• Profoundly changed how I approach coding. I've been coding professionally for 10 years and felt as if I was in a rut and ran into the same issues multiple times.
  
  Clean Code goes into the depths of the problem. Robert Martin takes you through pages upon pages of code to make the points clear and relevant to real world problems. Too many books give simple examples that are difficult to make meaningful.
  
  Overall this is a great book that I recommend to programmers at all levels. You will learn something new (even though it's an "older" book).
• Stay far away from this book of you are not an OOP programmer. All examples are in Java but most C++ programmers should be able to mentally translate the ideas. There is also too much focus on Java specific tooling. While there are some good points this book makes, it disregards many good programming techniques used in standard imperative languages without objects. It completely disregards functional languages and given gives some terrible advice when it comes to writing good code in a functional style. Overall it's pretty good up to about chapter 7. After that it's pretty much downhill.

Ne veut pas ouvrir les yeux.


Cet ouvrage court, facile d'accès et rapide à lire, donne des faits, des arguments clairs et incontestables. Une sorte de guide pratique destiné à celles et ceux qui veulent convaincre, mais aussi et surtout aux millions de carnivores qui se posent des questions. Je veux ici casser les idées reçues, en m'appuyant sur les consensus scientifiques. Certains points font débat, d'autres non. C'est sur ces arguments incontestables qu'il faut s'appuyer. "

• I know next to nothing about music theory but as I am currently a guitar student of James Shipway, I had to have this book. Once again James has hit it out of the park. His clear and concise language is superb. This book enables the beginning theory student to finally have a tool to make sense of triads, intervals, keys and anything else you need to know without getting bogged down with the things you don't. Highly recommended!
• One of the best things about this book is what James chooses NOT to write about. As the title implies, he has distilled down what would otherwise be a headache inducing topic, into just the essentials and explained those in a way that is easy to grasp. I find learning to play guitar hard enough already. Thanks James for making the theory part easier.

• Invaluable advice. I was in a custody battle with my ex husband for nine years. Had a high priced lawyer and all, but got nowhere with the judge. This book helped me realize what proof the judge needed to make an informed custody decision. I now have full custody of my children and I owe it in part to this book. It finally helped me organize all my information and present it to the judge in a way she could understand. It also helped me realize that even thought I know my case through and through, the judge only knows what both parties present in the way of evidence because they have hundreds of cases. YOU need to present solid evidence and this book can help you do that. Good luck and remember, it is about the kids lives, not your wants!
• By far one of the best books we've found on how to deal with our custody situation. My husband has an ex who he was never married to and there have been some pretty substantial issues with visitation. We found this book to be very helpful and the lawyer we discussed it with found it was fantastic for helping us organize our information. We've had several friends start telling people about it as well. We've read a lot of books on the subject and this was by far the best!
• This book explains with great detail what parents do to alienate children from the other parent.
  It helps understand what are they doing and why, so you can manage the conflict better, and does have some advise on countermeasures.
• This should be given out to everyone at the law office when they are hiring a lawyer. I wish I had this from the start. I was given the information of this book from a support group I belong to.
• I only gave this 3 stars because I was hoping there would be more about preparing for trial, for testifying and dealing with the types of questions attorneys ask during cross examination.
• Much of this book is about parental alienation in a post divorce setting.
  As a person just getting started, and trying to anticipate problems, this wasn’t as helpful. However I was able to glean some insights from the exercises provided.
• Helpful read for parents who are alienated and need language to fight back without being alienating.

• Another well written mystery in this series! So who is telling the truth? The new American female chef in town or the local good old boy chef? Does Sarah have real concerns with Jack's roving eye? Is she about to be replaced as the main woman in Jack's day to day life? A must read to find out the answers to another one of the many secrets of the idyllic village of Cherringham.
• I am addicted to this series. Waited for months for the book and it didn’t disappoint. Am looking forward to more stories from these two amazing writers
• The dialogue, the narrative and each character are all thoroughly enjoyable. The writing is above parr, which separates this series from the usual ‘cozy’ mysteries. I look forward to the next one.
• This was one of the inexpensive choices of an audible book, popped up on my list of recommendations , and since I love to be read to added it to my list. Also it is ready by Neil Duggins, and I love his voice, It is a quick and easy little listen and a good cozy mystery . Sometimes that is all I am in the mood for, did this one in a few night while doing the dishes or cleaning up the kitchen, Well worth a read or a listen.
• Once again transported to the Cotswold's with wonderful warm writing and style. The words open you to old and new friends. The story is as crisp and clean as the mystery is murky! Just sit back and listen to this world being opened before you as these two restaurants seem to go at each other for dining supremacy. Friends in trouble, great food are all served before you like the perfect martini!
• Spend some time in Cherringham and enjoy the adventure....and the encounters Jack and Sarah have as they delve through mysteries which will keep you entertained......I enjoy the idea of being able to get through in no time flat......definitely a page turned attracted to all ages

• Ira, if you had any idea how many sleepless nights you have cost me over the last few years...and every one of them have been well worth it too. I am at the point I will buy your work on the strength of your name alone, as I did with this one.😉
  I feel that we must look at Islam as a skilled surgeon would look at a growing cancer in a patient's body and treat it accordingly. To continue to be so worried about PC words or opinions is akin to asking a soldier to go into battle without ammo or body armor. To paraphrase a old movie line, in the long run it will boil down to Islam or freedom, because neither this world or their beliefs allow room for both.
• Book 2 of Year 2050 picks up were book 1left off and keeps you on the edge of your set till the end. Can't wait to see what the author writes about next.
• An excellent sequel to the first book. I can’t wait to see how it all ends in the third installment.

• I'm a die-hard GG fan, and have been for over 20 years. It's great to see the new products that come out. I would NOT, however, waste your money on this.
  First of all, this flimsy box came in an ENVELOPE - so it arrived completely smashed. When I opened the box, it fell apart because it had been destroyed. The magnets are TINY and most don't even make sense for the GG theme.
  VERY disappointing.
• This is the best value of all my GG stuff and the most fun! The magnets perfectly capture the spirit of the show. In addition to the characters and props from certain episodes (the teddy bear, purse, cheesecake, lanai chair, etc.) there are the 80s Miami style touches like the flamingo, plants and tropical drinks. They are so perfect and make me RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY! I also didn’t know it came with this adorable little book! I had only planned to stick the magnets up, not have them hold anything though, so if you want them to hold things, be warned they probably aren’t strong enough. The lanai/kitchen backdrop (which I freaking LOVE and didn’t even know came with it) Took a lot of magnets to hold and magnets I put on near the folds popped right off. I also cut the picture off the front of the box and hung it on my desk because it’s too beautiful to throw in the recycling bin!
• ADORABLE. But wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I pictured this magnet set much bigger, and assumed the playing mat was also magnetic. The playing mat is made of thick, durable paper, approximately 6in by 8in. Dorothy, Blanche, Sophia and Rose magnets are about 3 inches. The other magnets include Sophia's purse, cheesecake, flamingos, potted plants, tropical drinks, Rose's teddy bear and more. Kit also comes with cute little guide to the G.G's which is filled with mini character bios, quotes and more.
• I love these magnets. Yes, it would be nice if they were bigger but they are advertised to be small, so they are small. I'm just going to be putting these on my refrigerator or my file cabinet so that's okay. They come with a little Golden Girls booklet and a mini reversible poster of their house.
• The Box contains numerous Magnets, Folded paper background of the Kitchen and Lanai on either side, and a small booklet with info about the characters and show. The Magnets are sturdy and well made and had lots of fun Golden Girls Images. The paper background is colorful and well made, but the magnets are not exactly to scale. The booklet is cute, but nothing to write home about. I say if you are a Golden Girl fan and want a fun little gift for yourself or someone else I would recommend this. The magnets look great on my fridge!
• Magnets are tiny and some weren’t even things from the show. The magnets also aren’t very strong and the bends in the folded background can make them fall off. If you are a diehard fan, you may still want this otherwise I’d say pass and maybe spend that money on some other GG goodies.
• Cute as a button, all these are very well made. I have to take one star off for the background not being magnetic. The magnets will not stick to it so there's no way to place the background on the fridge or other vertical surface. Other than that, I'm glad I bought this.
• This gets 4 stars for being Golden Girls magnets, but the scale is off. It would be better if the accessory magnets, the backdrop, and the girls were the same scale. I stuck the girls and a few of their accessories to the front of my desk.

• I didn't know. Alcoholism/family dysfunction may be kept a secret. It certainly was in my family growing up. As a child, I felt that something was just not right but just couldn't put my finger on it. So, my thinking became distorted and tried to force solutions to fit what I was feeling. Ultimately, I ended up not being able to trust my own feelings! This book helps people like me as well as those who obviously grew up with active drinking in their families (How much DID you and Mom drink while I was growing up?). This question opened up an entire world in my family I never knew existed. On the surface, we were the "perfect" family. And to be fair, there were lots of good times. Camping, water skiing, church. Family get togethers were not drunken brawls as I have heard others relate. However, there was this undercurrent of dis-ease that I picked up.
  
  The Red Book has been a great help in putting my life in order. I only wish I had found it earlier in my recovery, however I am glad it was written. I have heard it said that "AA is the High School diploma. Al Anon is the Master's degree and ACA is the PhD." This pretty much describes my haphazard (Divinely inspired) path to recovery.
  
  Stop drinking/using. Go to Al Anon. and Read the Big Red Book. Prayers for your journey through recovery.
• If you grew up in an addict household or dysfunctional household this book is perfect for you. While considering this purchase or are skeptical, jsut read the "Laundry List" in the book preview. When I read that, I felt like that was me on that page. If you feel that way as well, you should have no doubts about buying this. This is one of the greatest purchases I have made. It really is life changing.
• An outstanding manual for the millions, who come from what is probably the most common of families, a Dysfunctional One! If you're honest with yourself, you'll realize yours isn't perfect, below all the positive hype, you tell yourself, or the family front, there is a lot that isn't nurturing, healthy or what you want to pass on to your own kids.
  
  Instead of blaming, shaming or worse, ignoring and denying. Read this. Then get yourself to a meeting! There is even a chapter of PTSD. It isn't just happening to military vets. It happens in the most ordinary of families. Anybody remember the movie Ordinary People? This book is worth it's weight in gold.
• This review is for the kindle edition. The content itself is very good and thoughtfully organized. I appreciate a deeper approach of this text for those searching for a more complete recovery from the affects of family dysfunction. It would be helpful if the kindle addition would match the page numbers of the hard-copy. This book, in conjunction with the meetings, is a must for everyone, in my humble opinion.
• The book itself is fabulous, validating and vital reading for anyone coming from an alcoholic or dysfunctional family.
  
  That said, this listing is for the PAPERBACK version of the updated version. The paperback cover is almost a burgundy color. The hardback BRB, Big Red Book, is the same but has a red cover (what is pictured). The paperback book is not nearly as bright. It easily blends in when reading in public so many folks chose it for that reason.
• Why was I consistently ending up in dysfunctional and unloving relationships and picking wounded, emotionally unavailable people as lovers? Why, after 30 years in another 12 step program, did I still hate myself? Why did I believe others could fulfill me through THEIR love? Now I have answers to those very questions. This book gives me the pathway to healing from the abuses I suffered from as a result of being brought up in an alcoholic home. It also gives me deeper insight and understanding into generational dysfunction and it's affects on all family members. After reading this book (which I will continue to do until the day I die) I finally accepted the fact that the answer was inside me, and no one else, and that if I didn't learn to love myself, I was never going to find the happiness and contentment I was seeking. What this book suggests I do isn't easy, but it is do-able and definitely better than living the way I was living, which was most of the time in total confusion and denial about my own pain. I bought the text book from a 12-step group I attend that focuses on recovery from dysfunction homes and being involved in that group has helped tremendously. This review is from the downloaded version, which is word for word the same as the physical text book.
  
  Thank you to all who participated in the development of this book. It's invaluable for those seeking recovery.
• Wow! This is an intense book, but very worth it. After years of therapy and other programs, I discovered ACA and it has changed my life in less than a year. Very highly recommended.
• An earlier reviewer wrote that it seemed to her a book of complaints by people who didn't get their way. I review charts for a mental health clinic and seek referral resources for the clients. I often suggest a referral to ACA. In part it is because of this excellent book written by people suffering from PTSD symptoms from growing up in unsafe households with parents or other caregivers who beat, molest, threaten, abandon, etc. What is found in the pages of this book is a source of identification with the topics and the writers of vignettes about recovering from the distortions of growing up in a dismal dangerous environment.. Small groups, using this book to "detoxify,"to tell their stories and heal. Great read for anyone needing to understand the generational nature of addiction.

• It's the style of this book that makes it such an intimate, fun read. It's like talking to a friend who also has his vices -namely potato chips. Yet his strengths are so great that they inspire yours. And the recipes look great!
  
  I've read at least seven books on plant-based eating and yet, I'm still learning new things, especially from this book.
  
  For instance, we plant-based eaters are always asked "Where do you get your protein?" Besides detailing the major sources, Ocean Robbins details a study that showed that those who ate a high protein diet between the ages of 50 and 65 were four times more likely to die of cancer than those on a low-protein diet.
  
  I also learned that "more Americans are dying from diet-fueled disease each year than died in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the war in Afghanistan and both Iraq wars combined."
  
  Participants in a study "who ate greens regularly halted their mental decline by an average of 11 years."
  
  "Phytoestrogens in soy are relatively weak, and have actually been found to block harmful estrogenic effects."
  
  "To secure milk for humans, baby calves are typically taken away from their mothers in their first day of life."
  
  A good reason to choose organic is to avoid plants raised with "sewage sludge, irradiation, genetic engineering, and most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers."
  
  We also get to hear the story of John Robbins, Ocean's dad, who turned away from an ice cream fortune with Baskin-Robbins to lead his own crusade for healthy eating. This inspired his son, who was nearly named "Kale."
• Just got this book in my hands and it is a breath of fresh air. No fluff, no fads, just the real honest truth about food, our environment and our culture. There’s so much depth to this book that one cannot even begin to describe it in this review and I recommend everyone picking up a copy to pick it up for yourself.
• I couldn't wait to get this book. I am part of Food Revolution.com. I love the advice and the love that Ocean puts forth sharing his knowledge and wisdom. I also love listening to him on the different summits that I am a part of. It's amazing hearing him speak and feeling his love burst through wanting people to get healthy in all areas. Thinking about where your food come from, GMO /NON GMO, etc. He has helped me a lot with his wisdom and humor.
  
  It's funny when my son James sends me an article on Instagram and it comes from Food Revolution. I say I already know this, maybe you should just sign up... hahahahaha. But I'm guilty on that end too, I send him things that Ocean says as well and we try to encorporate that in our lifestyle.
  
  We became Pescatarians a few years ago. But lately more vegetarians. Ocean's knowledge truly have helped me on my journey. Hopefully he will come here to Pittsburgh one day. We have a wonderful Convention center right downtown 😁 it's easy to get to , with many hotels within walking distance💓💓 I just love Ocean and his dad, one day I would love to give them a wonderful hug of thanks💓💓
• Truly, A Natural, whole plant based food plan will turn your life around. Start from right where you are.
  Another book I emphatically recommend in this regard is, Bright Line Eating (Living Happy, Thin & Free), by Dr Susan Pierce Thompson. Knowledge is Power, no matter what your age!
• I jumped right in on the various chapters, or, I could have just started reading from the beginning, like the author, Ocean Robbins suggested. But no, I had to examine certain chapters I had questions on and guess what, every question, was answered within the chapter. The research is up to date and the latest on any subject of food, (hunt, gathered, processed, legal, environmental, etc. topics), and a few very interesting stories to scientifically prove the research. I bought a professional blender through just so I could try the delicious looking recipes at the end of this book. The book is well worth the money, even if you're curious about the health of our nation.
• Just received this book and have not been able to put down. Very well organized in telling the story of becoming whole food plant based. I love the way Ocean explained protein and the formula to figure your personal daily needs.

• As a vegetarian for 35 years and a vegan for 9, I'm not going to say I learned a lot that is new from this fabulous book, but Ocean has done a wonderful job of explaining the reasons why going plant-based is the best thing you can do for your health, the animals and the planet. He does it without preaching, and often with humor. I smiled often while reading it, which I did over two days. Now I will start on the recipes!
• I curate plantbased123.com and spend all my time trying to help people who have decided to make the switch to healthier eating. The transition to eating more plants isn't as hard as overcoming all of the misinformation. The fear tactics from misinformed people and even doctors who have little to any education on nutrition will ask or claim that eating plants isn't really enough. Ocean Robbins has broken it all down in the easiest explanation possible. Once you start eating more veggies you worry about cleaning supplies, local eating, your kid's lunches, iron, protein, and question all your steps. Leave it to Ocean to put you at ease and go over just about anything that has ever come up with any of my clients. I will be directing all of my people to seek out this book. Don't get caught up with the number of days or figuring out when you will start. Just read the book and start to make different choices that seem right to you each day and you will find yourself in greater and greater health! Thank you Ocean
